How Learning Works at PTEK
At PTEK, learning is carefully structured to help students build strong academic foundations, develop confidence, and learn how to study effectively in a modern world.
Our approach combines focused mathematics tuition, personal mentoring, structured study routines, and guided project work — all within a calm and supportive environment.
A Purpose-Built Learning Environment
PTEK is designed to support deep focus and meaningful learning.
- 16 individual student cubicles for quiet self-study
- Dedicated mentoring rooms for focused guidance
- Discussion rooms for small-group collaboration
- Media room with LCD display for presentations
- Lounge and library area for reading and reflection
Small Cohorts & Personal Mentoring
Students learn best when they are known, guided, and supported consistently.
- Students are grouped into cohorts of 8
- Each cohort is guided by one dedicated mentor
- Cohorts reflect students’ form level for appropriate pacing
This structure allows mentors to monitor progress closely while building strong mentor–student relationships.
Individual Focus & Buddy Learning
Individual Learning
Each student has a personal study cubicle where they work independently on assigned learning tasks, practice questions, and revision.
Mentors provide guidance, feedback, and support as needed throughout the session.
Buddy Learning
Students are paired with a learning buddy to encourage accountability, peer discussion, and collaborative problem-solving.
A Clear Weekly Learning Rhythm
Consistency is essential for effective learning.
Every student attends two 2-hour sessions per week, following a structured rhythm that balances guidance, practice, and reflection.
Session 1: Individual Focus & Guidance
- One-to-one micro-mentoring with the mentor
- Individual self-study at cubicles
- Group discussions and guided assistance
- Mentor support provided throughout the session
Session 2: Pair Work, Team Interaction & Presentation
- Pair (buddy) micro-mentoring
- Individual self-study at cubicles
- Group discussions and collaborative work
- Weekly cohort presentation session in the media room
This structure ensures every student receives personal attention while learning to reflect, communicate, and collaborate confidently.
Mathematics as the Core Learning Subject
PTEK is licensed to offer Mathematics tuition, and mathematics is the subject through which academic progress is monitored and reported to parents.
Mathematics is also used as a foundation to teach students how to:
- Think logically
- Analyse problems
- Reflect on mistakes
- Develop disciplined study habits
Learning with Guidance in a Modern World
Modern learning tools, including AI-based resources, can support learning when used responsibly.
At PTEK, mentors guide students to:
- Ask better questions
- Check understanding rather than copy answers
- Use tools appropriately and ethically
- Build independence without over-reliance
Mathematics is used as the training subject to develop these skills.
Project-Based & Role-Based Learning
In addition to regular academic work, students complete individual and team projects throughout the year.
Some projects are introduced through guided role-based scenarios, where students learn to investigate topics, reflect on learning, and present findings.
- Projects help students connect learning to real-world contexts
- Students practise communication and presentation skills
- Mentors guide students throughout the process
Learning Identity & Reflective Study
As part of project work, PTEK uses a learning identity framework to support focus, privacy, and reflective learning.
- Students use a structured learning identity for project-related activities
- Mentors may also adopt learning identities during guided sessions
- Projects are often approached from a third-person perspective, encouraging objective thinking
This allows students to study themselves, their community, and the physical world more thoughtfully, while maintaining a professional and respectful learning environment.
Developing Communication & Confidence
Every week, students participate in structured presentation sessions in the media room.
- Public speaking practice
- Explaining ideas clearly
- Receiving feedback respectfully
- Building confidence over time
Preparing Students for Their Learning Journey
PTEK’s learning model helps students develop habits and skills that extend beyond examinations.
- Independent learning
- Responsibility and discipline
- Collaboration and resilience
- Confidence in facing new challenges
